  • According to the 1841 census Joseph Wiseman was a miller, living at the Mill House in 1841 along with his wife Elizabeth & Louisa.

In 1851 he {Joseph Wiseman) is a Miller’s assistant along with Joseph Sparkes, George Sparkes, Robert ????, William Markham.
Luke Staples was a miller & farmer of 240 acres.

Interestingly the village also had a rat catcher John Harrison and I would assume along with a few cats that his services may have required at the mill.

Sometime between 1851 and 1861 Joseph Wiseman changed occupation and became the village postman.

I have not found the relationship with Percy Wiseman but suggest that there is a connection.

Joseph Wiseman was my Great, great grandfather.

I hope this is of interest.

Would love to use the postcard for personal interest. Who’s permission do I need?

Please let me know, many thanks

  • Hi Gina
I’ve just taken over running the site so I’m catching up on all the missed messages! Do feel free to use the photo for personal use – I’m afraid I don’t have a note of who originally submitted it.
